Dorvis, a unified authentication solution, reduces IT development costs by 30%

Dorvis

Dorvis, the unified authentication solution from the IT company “ZZ Dats,” supports all leading authentication methods in Latvia, such as eParaksts, Smart-ID, and online banking. The authentication solution has become more secure for users and more convenient for IT developers—development costs are reduced by 30%.

“The Dorvis solution is primarily relevant for companies that manage customer portals and e-stores—especially those that already have one or two authentication methods in place and need to expand and centralize them. We are pleased to have created a solution where a single integration can replace up to four months of IT development work in just a couple of days,” says Edžus Žeiris, director of the IT company SIA “ZZ Dats.”

As data on Latvija.lv user authentication habits confirms, customers today want to authenticate themselves in the most convenient way—in 2024, 40% of visitors to the Latvija.gov.lv portal verified their identity via online banking authorization, 36% chose Smart-ID, and 24% used eSignature. www.epakalpojumi.lv* statistics also show that customers use various authentication methods according to their preferences. In September, when logging into www.epakalpojumi.lv, 85% of users authenticated via an online bank, while 15% used eSignature.

Using the authentication tools developed by “ZZ Dats,” more than 100,000 secure authentications are performed each month—for government employees, businesses, and residents who use www.epakalpojumi.lv.

In an e-store, customer portal, etc., implementing only one or two authentication methods can deny convenient access to a significant portion of potential users, and this experience is also confirmed by Kaspars Irmejs, an IT systems administrator at E. Gulbja Laboratory, who notes that following successful initial experiments allowing patients to authenticate on the laboratory’s website via a specific online banking service, the question arose of how to provide additional authentication methods while avoiding individual integrations and separate administration for each one. The “ZZ Dats” solution, which includes all leading Latvian authentication methods, proved to be the successful answer. Having used the service for nearly 10 years, it has operated so reliably that it has become practically invisible in day-to-day operations. However, whenever assistance was needed, it was promptly provided at the highest level, 24/7.

Dorvis practically simplifies authentication management

“We actively collaborate with IT development, consulting, and design agencies that develop various client portals and e-shops, and they particularly appreciate the advantages of the Dorvis solution because it can be offered as a ready-made solution to clients who need authentication. Often, companies that want to integrate various authentication methods face a number of challenges. First, each authentication provider has its own technologies and integration approach. Second, each integration must be customized individually to the specific client’s needs. Third, ongoing technical support and maintenance must also be considered—if updates are implemented, changes must be made to each integration separately. As a result, this process becomes time-consuming and requires significant IT resources. Dorvis, however, solves this problem by combining all major Latvian authentication methods into a single platform using OpenID Connect. This means that clients do not have to integrate each method separately; everything works through an international standard. “The developers we surveyed emphasize that projects using a ready-made authentication solution can be completed faster, thereby also saving costs,” confirms Edžus Žeiris.

One of Dorvis’s advantages is that clients have unified access to all leading Latvian authentication tools—including online banks. In turn, a wider range of authentication options also ensures a broader customer base. Dorvis is a self-service portal, so every e-store, website owner, and other clients can use it individually. It is important that users have access to centralized authentication data and enjoy convenient transparency. The technical support and daily consultations provided by SIA “ZZ Dats” are also essential.
