The software facilitates the exchange of health data between countries in the European Union and the European Economic Area through the MyHealth@EU initiative. It allows healthcare professionals to access necessary data with the patient’s consent and enables the use of e-prescriptions in a cross-border context.

The solution was developed in collaboration with the National Health Service and ensures secure and standardized e-prescription data exchange, allowing Latvian residents to obtain medications abroad, as well as enabling foreign patients to purchase medications at Latvian pharmacies.

Key Features

  • The ability for Latvian residents to purchase e-prescription medications abroad and for foreign residents to do so in Latvia
  • Access to a summary of the patient’s health data (diagnoses, allergies, medications, surgeries, etc.)
  • Exchange of e-prescriptions between EU and EEA countries
  • Data accessibility to a doctor abroad with the patient’s consent
  • A unified data format and secure data exchange between countries

The system ensures continuous healthcare even outside the patient’s home country. This reduces risks in treatment and facilitates access to necessary information in critical moments.

How does it work?

The patient goes to a pharmacy in another European Union member state and informs the pharmacist that they wish to use an e-prescription issued in Latvia. Upon presentation of a valid ID, the pharmacist accesses the prescription in the system and can dispense the medication.

If the prescription is for reimbursable medications, you must initially pay for the medication abroad out of your own pocket. Upon returning to Latvia, you can contact the National Health Service to receive reimbursement for the expenses in accordance with the procedures established in Latvia.

The system records information about the dispensed and remaining quantities, which can also be obtained later in Latvia or another country.
